For over 50 years, Brookdale Community College has offered pathways to premiere, cost-effective degrees and professional certificates throughout Monmouth County. As recent events have shown, things change rapidly. What was once a concrete decision can be changed instantly, leaving one feeling unsure of their future and path. Brookdale offers two more opportunities in the fall to register for classes with an 11-week or even 7- week semester with registration now through October 12th for 11-Week and November 4th for 7-Week Semester.

Kevin Moedt, Brookdale alumnus class of 2014, said “enrolling in Brookdale Community College was one of the defining moments of his life.”

After high school graduation, Moedt started at another university in September 2012. A few weeks after his first semester of college started, Superstorm Sandy hit Monmouth County. “As a member of Middletown Office of Emergency Management, I had to stay closer to home,” said Moedt. He enrolled in an Economics class during the 11-week session at Brookdale. “At that moment, I did not realize it was going to be one of the defining decisions of my young life.” He said that decision started him on the path to success he is still following today.

Brookdale offers affordable, accessible pathways that can begin in an 11 – Week or 7 – Week Semester, which includes studies that lay down the foundation for a 4-year degree or fast track you to skilled, in-demand careers. Brookdale is continually offering innovative ways for modern-day students to meet their goals and exceed their expectations.

Moedt continued to graduate from Brookdale with an associate degree and then transferred to Monmouth University. The partnership between Brookdale and Monmouth University made transferring easy.

When it comes to paying for college Brookdale is a smart choice to start your college education. The average student accumulates over $37,000 in student loan debt. Today, more than ever, students and parents are carefully considering finances as they relate to prospective colleges. The average amount saved per year by attending Brookdale compared to a public four-year university is $6,000. The average savings compared to a public four-year college out of state is $12,000 and the savings over a private college is $29,000. Those are annual savings. If it takes two years to get an associate degree, we are talking a savings of up to $58,000!

“Every person I interacted with at Brookdale, from my professors to my work with the Student Life Board, all made an impact on my life in some way for the better. To this day, most, if not all, are still influencers in my day to day life, and I am so grateful for that,” said Moedt.

It has been eight years since Moedt made the decision to take an Economics class during the 11-week session at Brookdale, and he is once again, making a decision that will put him on the path to success. He recently accepted the position of Account Executive for Scripps Media in New York City.
