The 24th of June is New Jersey Day, anniversary of the establishment of New Jersey as an English colony on June 24, 1664. The reign of King Charles II saw the English takeover of New Netherland from the Dutch and the establishment of New Jersey as a colony separate from New York, dividing the new colony into East and West with social and commercial interests facing north and south, embedding the pernicious practice of enslavement of Africans as an essential early source of colonial wealth and labor, and attracting the religious and national diversity that informed a tradition of liberty and innovation characterizing New Jersey through the centuries to the present day.

This historic houses tour of Wallace House & Old Dutch Parsonage explores the establishment of New Jersey in the reign of King Charles II and reflects on the legacy of the Old Carolean Era as we observe our first New Jersey Day in the New Carolean Era following the Coronation of King Charles III.
