This is a hybrid event! This event will take place in-person outside in the courtyard at the Woodbridge Main Library. If you do not feel comfortable attending the event in-person we will also be streaming the event via Zoom. If extreme weather is expected the day of the event (heavy rain, excessive heat, or a serious storm) the event will revert to being completely virtual via Zoom.

Don has been volunteering at The Seeing Eye volunteer since 2011.  His role is to coordinate outreach visits to individuals, groups, and organizations wanting to learn more about The Seeing Eye and how everything works.  In addition to coordinating the outreach program, he enjoys making visits himself, and meeting directly with people of all ages who want to learn about The Seeing Eye.

Don lives in Denville, and is happily retired after 42 years in Information Technology in the insurance industry.  During his time working with computers, things changed dramatically from punch cards in the early days to the internet, e-commerce, smart phones, and other new technologies.  It was a good time to be in the business.

The Seeing Eye is a guide dog nonprofit with a mission to enhance the independence, dignity, and self-confidence of blind people through the use of Seeing Eye dogs. In pursuit of this mission, The Seeing Eye: breeds and raises puppies to become seeing eye dogs; trains seeing eye dogs to guide blind people; instructs blind people in the proper use, handling, and care of the dogs; conducts and supports research on canine health and development.

An important part of The Seeing Eye’s outreach is the Pennies for Puppies / Dollars for Dogs program.  We hope the individuals, groups, and organizations we visit will recognize the good work The Seeing Eye does and help support it in some way, either monetarily, or through in-kind donations (dog food, Milk Bones, chew toys, and old towels).  All monetary donations go toward The Seeing Eye’s breeding, puppy raising, and training activities.  The in-kind donations, of course, go directly to the dogs in our kennels.

This is event is a part of our Summer Reading Programming – Tails and Tales!
