As the Continental Congress debated the Declaration of Independence in Philadelphia, New Jersey’s own Provincial Congress met in Burlington to vote for American independence and adopt a Constitution for New Jersey.
Among the delegates in Burlington were Old Dutch Parsonage’s Rev. Jacob Rutsen Hardenbergh and Col. Frederick Frelinghuysen. With their historic home as our backdrop and touchstone, we’ll explore New Jersey’s Charter (June 24, 1664), instructions to delegates to the Continental Congress (June 22, 1776) and first Constitution (July 2, 1776) with new videos every other day from June 22 to July 4, 2020.
