About the play:
An important New Jersey family had the vision, passion and fortitude to build one of America’s most iconic structures.
Written by Mark Violi and directed by Ruth Markoe, ROEBLING tells the story of how this important New Jersey family overcame seemingly insurmountable odds to build one of America’s most iconic structures, and how their innovative technology changed bridge building forever. The Brooklyn Bridge is part of our everyday world—seen in movies, in photos, or casually passed over on a taxi ride—yet many do not know the fascinating story of how it came to be.
Roebling: The Story of the Brooklyn Bridge is the story of the immense challenges faced by the Roebling Family in their dedication to building the Brooklyn Bridge. Audiences will meet a remarkable, forward-thinking family on the cutting edge of the Industrial Revolution. Roebling shows how this project foreshadowed the 20th century in the huge ambition of the project itself, the revolutionary construction techniques developed by John Roebling, and in the recognition of the vital role that his daughter-in-law, Emily Roebling, played in the implementation of this enormous project. This is truly a story of Innovation, Dedication, Perseverance and Family.
