SUNDAYS, FEBRUARY 9TH AND 23RD; AND MARCH 8TH, 4:00-6:00 PM

This three-session class will present an overview of Islam.

  • The first class will focus on central beliefs, the pillars of Islamic practice, and core aspects of spirituality.
  • The second class will look at Muslim history as part of world history, including kingdoms and personalities, as well as food, architecture, clothing, and the arts.
  • The final class will offer a brief history of Jewish-Muslim relations.

Imam Adeyinka Muhammad Mendes, a native Ohioan of Yoruba, Brazilian, and African American ancestry, embraced Islam at age 17 after a life-changing journey to Jerusalem. He studied history at Morehouse College, Arabic language and cultural studies at Ohio State University, as well as the spiritual, scholastic, and aesthetic disciplines of Muslim civilization by classical Muslim scholars and academics around the world. One of his many passions is “building bridges of peace and healing between diverse peoples.”
