Under the direction of Dr. David A. McConnell, Voices Chorale NJ (VCNJ) presents “Singing for Peace”, an in-person and live-streamed concert on April 30 in Princeton, NJ. Works will include Handel’s rarely performed Anthem on the Peace, selections by Mendelssohn and Haydn, and contemporary composers. Accompaniment will be the chorale pianist Dr. Akiko Hosaki and the 16-piece Berks Sinfonietta, an intergenerational chamber orchestra co-founded and directed by Dr. McConnell. VCNJ originally planned to perform this music in the spring of 2020.
The ability to perform it now carries even more relevance, especially due to current events. According to Dr. McConnell, “We will accomplish something good if people think about their role in creating peace. If they leave comforted and challenged by the texts, we will have made the words speak more clearly through the music.”
