The North Brunswick Township Council will welcome at least one new face next year, while three incumbents will try to retain their council seats in South Brunswick.

In North Brunswick, the seats of Democrats Ralph Andrews and Catherine Nicola will be up for grabs in November.

Nicola has decided not to run for re-election.

“I served as a councilwoman for 12 years, in my lifelong home, the Township of North Brunswick, with great pride,” Nicola said. “Representing my neighbors – the residents of North Brunswick – will always remain a great honor. My time served on the council was filled with many accomplishments. After a lifetime of public service including being a volunteer and member of numerous township and county organizations, in addition to being elected and re-elected three times on the Township Council, I felt it was time to give someone else the opportunity to serve.”

Instead, Andrews will run for re-election, accompanied by his new runningmate, Amanda Guadagnino. The Republicans will challenge the all-Democratic board with candidates George Callan and Thomas Lichwa.

In South Brunswick, incumbent Democrats Charlie Carley, Joe Camarota and Jo Hochman will attempt to keep Democratic control of the council, while facing Republican challengers Michael Kushwarra and Brian Wojaczyk.

The deadline to file for a candidate who wants to run independently and not on a party line is June 7.
