SOUTH BRUNSWICK – Motorists have received a strong reminder about the dangers of distracted driving during the first three weeks of April.
South Brunswick Police Chief Raymond Hayducka announced the results of South Brunswick’s crackdown on distracted driving through the UDrive, UText, UPay Campaign.
“We saw a 40 percent decrease in cell phone summonses this year as compared to last year at the same time. There are a number of factors that can distract a driver, but awareness and enforcement appear to be making progress,” Hayducka said in a statement prepared by the department.
In South Brunswick from April 1-21, there were 172 traffic details focused on distracted driving. During 152 officer hours, there were two DWI arrests, 22 violations of seatbelts, 66 tickets for speeding, 21 cell phone infractions, 25 cases of suspended driver’s licenses, one incident of reckless driving, 89 situations of careless driving and 475 other motor vehicle violations. There were 701 total summonses issues.
“The statewide campaign may have ended, but our commitment to enhanced traffic safety is an ongoing effort. We will continue to push greater awareness and enforcement,” Hayducka said.
