Rebecca Peterman of Hillsborough was one of the weekend occupational therapy master’s degree program students at Misericordia University in Dallas, Pa., to receive a pin and present their capstone research at an annual Graduate Research Presentation Conference. They will receive their master’s degrees in August.
The 18-month collaborative research projects are closely are required in the occupational therapy master’s degree curriculum. Students received permission to conduct their studies, and then wrote research proposals, collected data, analyzed data, and wrote final reports.
Students presented their findings in 20-minute presentations using either a poster or podium format. The students will have their master’s degree conferred in September and graduate in December.

Kate Mochnacz, a Hillsborough resident and student at Bloomsburg University of Pennsylvania, was recently initiated into The Honor Society of Phi Kappa Phi, the nation’s oldest and most selective collegiate honor society for all academic disciplines.
Kate is among about 30,000 students, faculty, professional staff and alumni initiated into Phi Kappa Phi each year. Membership is by invitation and requires nomination and approval by a chapter. Only the top 10 percent of seniors and 7.5 percent of juniors, having at least 72 semester hours, are eligible.

Tierney Rojas of Hillsborough was inducted into Phi Eta Sigma freshman honor society during Honors Week at Widener University in Chester, Pa.
The honor society has more than 375 chapters throughout the United States and more than 1,100,000 members. Any first-year student with a GPA of at least 3.5 on a 4.0 scale at the end of a full curricular period is eligible for membership.

Melissa Stept, a graduate of Hillsborough High School’s Class of 2014, received the 2016 Academic Excellence Award at Rutgers University this spring. The award recognizes the top 10 percent of sophomores at Rutgers based on their grade-point average in their respective schools.
Melissa is enrolled in the School of Arts and Sciences, where she has maintained a cumulative grade point average of 4.0. She expects to study psychology and criminal justice.

On April 29, Wagner College on Staten Island, N.Y., held its annual undergraduate award banquet, recognizing student leadership, professional promise and academic excellence. Tyler Cropley of Hillsborough won the Wagner College Award in chemistry for academically excellent work in the study of chemistry.
