St. Joseph’s Parish performs ‘Godspell’ to celebrate its 150th
May 13-15 — The St. Joseph Theatre Group will perform “Godspell” at 7:30 p.m. Friday and Saturday, and 2 p.m. Sunday in the church at 34 Yorktown Road. As part of the parish’s 150-year celebration, performances will have no admission charge or need tickets. Freewill offerings will be accepted.
Producer and musical director is Frank Viola and director is Matt Viola, parishioners of St. Joseph’s Parish. The part of Jesus will be played by Doug McLaughlin.
Based on the Gospel according to Matthew, Godspell features a comedic troupe of eccentric players who team up with Jesus to teach his lessons in a new age through parables, games and tomfoolery. Godspell ran in theaters off Broadway from 1971 to 1976 and on Broadway from 1976 to 1977. It features the international hit song “Day by Day.”

Flea markets open up at Route 260 firehouse
Sat., May 14 — Flea market will be held twice a month at the Hillsborough Fire Co. No. 2 firehouse on Route 206.
The flea markets are held from 9 a.m. to as long as there are customers. Markets are located on the grass adjacent to the firehouse.
Parking will be on the grass and behind the firehouse. There will be no parking next to the firehouse or in driveway.
Future markets are May 21, June 4 and 18, July 9 and 23, Aug. 6 and 27, Sept, 10 and 24, and Oct. 8 and 22.

South Branch church to hold bazaar, craft sale
Sat., May 14 — A “Joy of Spring” bazaar and craft sale will be sponsored by the South Branch Reformed Church from 9 a.m.-3 p.m. on River Road. The event will offer crafts, handmade items, home décor, vintage items, new and gently used items, specialty vendors, refreshments and a silent auction.
Chorus will remember radio songs of yesteryear
Sun., May 15 — Raritan Valley Chorus will present “Radio Days: Musical Memories of a Golden Era from America’s Hit Parade to Charlie Brown” at 3 p.m. at Hillsborough Reformed Church, 1 Amwell Road, Hillsborough.
Songs nostalgic inspired by Bell Telephone Hour, America’s Hit Parade, Fred Waring, Kate Smith, Met Opera broadcasts, Armed Forces Radio, Fireside Chats, Arthur Godfrey and Russ Hodges. All tickets $10.
Program at library shows how to fight skeeters’ bite
Thurs., May 19 — Learn how to protect yourself, your family and the community from mosquitoes and ticks in a program from 7 to 8 p.m. in the Manville Public Library, 100 South 10th Ave.

Garden club will discuss plants, then auction them
Thurs., May 19 — Master Gardener Marylin Hulme will lead a discussion based on previously submitted gardening questions at the Neshanic Garden Club monthly meeting at 9:45 a.m. at the Station House on Olive Street, Neshanic Station.

VFW will celebrate 85th with dinner-dance event
Sat., May 21 — Veterans of Foreign War Post 2290 will hold its 85th anniversary dinner-dance at the post at 600 Washington Ave. from 6 to 11 p.m. Tickets are $35 per person or $65 a couple before May 20 or $40 or $75, respectively, at door. Veterans’ breakfast precedes holiday parade
Sat., May 28 — Hillsborough veterans, spouses and widows are invited as guests at the annual Salute to Veterans breakfast preceding the township parade at the Municipal Complex on South Branch Road.
Registration before May 23 is required to attend the breakfast. People are asked to register online through the recreation department website or by calling the department at 908-369-4832. Registration forms are also available at the administration office.
Check in for the pre-parade breakfast is at 7:30 a.m. Following the breakfast, guests and visitors can board buses for transport to the start of the parade route. The parade steps off at 10:30 a.m. Veterans will lead the parade. The Garden of Honor ceremony will take place at the conclusion of parade.
Manville library hosts ‘Meltdown’ series concert
Sat., May 28 — Manville Meltdown concert series presents Tweed and the Sugardaddies from 5:30-7 p.m. at the Manville library, 100 South 10th Avenue. It’s outside, if the weather’s nice, and inside it it’s not.
The band provides original material, but also covers a diverse set of artists. Major influences include Gene Vincent, Buddy Holly, Elvis, Hank Williams, Johnny Cash and Bob Dylan. Call 908-722-9722 for information or to save a seat.
Business group to host networking night at Landing
Wed., June 1 — The Hillsborough Economic & Business Development Commission will host an evening networking event in the Farmhouse Banquet Room of “The Landing” on Amwell Road from 6 to 8 p.m.

Variety of fun activities offered at Circus Dance Festival
Sat., June 4 — The Dance Connection of Hillsborough will present its second annual Circus Dance Festival from 11 a.m. – 4 p.m. on the fields at Auten Road Intermediate School.
Organizers says the festival “is like a theme park, a live video game, and a street performance all rolled into one.” Attendees can walk on stilts, be part of a flash mob, solve a riddle, and meet and interact with characters. RSVP asked.
Green Living Fair joins ‘Hop’ run, blood drive
Sat., June 4 — The annual Green Living and Wellness Fair will be held from 9 a.m. to noon in conjunction with the YMCA’s Hillsborough Hop foot race at the municipal complex.
Businesses will have presentations, displays and demonstrations to raise awareness of the living a healthy lifestyle, including nutrition, long-term life choices and health screenings. Robert Wood Johnson-Somerset will conduct a blood drive inside.
St. Mary’s Catholic Church hosts monthly Slavic meal
Wed., June 8 — St. Mary Byzantine Catholic Church holds its monthly dinner, 4 to 7 p.m., in the St. Mary Parish Center, 1900 Brooks Blvd. $14 for adults (ages 9 and up) and $5 for children (8 and younger). All-you-can-eat pirohi, stuffed cabbage, kielbasa and sauerkraut, mashed potatoes.

High school’s graduation moves indoors in afternoon
Thurs., June 16 — Hillsborough High School graduation of the Class of 2016 will be held at the Sun Bank Arena, 81 Hamilton Ave., Trenton, starting at 3 p.m. Students must be 1:30 p.m. Parents can enter arena at 2 p.m. General admission is free; no tickets needed. Project Graduation rendezvous is at 8:30 p.m. at the high school.
