Students invited to Eco-Adventures at EARTH Center

Middlesex County students entering grades four through seven are invited to attend a fun summer program that focuses on the environment.

“Eco-Adventures at the EARTH Center” is scheduled for 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Aug. 22-26. The program will take place at the EARTH Center, located in Davidson’s Mill Pond Park at 42 Riva Ave., South Brunswick.

Each day’s events will have a different theme, and hands-on activities will explore topics like ecology, water and resource conservation, climate change and issues such as alternative energy and earth-friendly gardening. Most days will begin with a team-building exercise to help students get acquainted.

Aug. 24 will feature a field trip and later in the week, students will create video public service announcements.

“This program is a great way to get kids to enjoy their summer outdoors, and to understand the importance of caring for the environment,” said Middlesex County Freeholder Director Ronald G. Rios.

“Programs like these are not only fun, but also aid the development of social interaction and other important life skills. I hope that families take advantage of this opportunity,” said Freeholder Kenneth Armwood, chairman of the Business Development and Education Committee.

The registration fee of $110 includes program materials, a peanut-free snack, beverages and a parting gift. Attendees are expected to bring their own brown bag lunch. The registration deadline for Eco-Adventures at the EARTH Center is Aug. 15. Arrangements can be made for attendees with special needs.
