Township teen charged with cyber-harassment

SOUTH BRUNSWICK — A township man has been accused of posting lewd and threatening messages on social media to target a local victim.

South Brunswick police charged Adam Zakaria, 19, with cyber-harassment after the victim and her family reached out to police after learning of the messages, according to reports.

An investigation by Detective Rick Delucia determined that Zakaria allegedly sent the lewd comments with the intent to create emotional harm to the victim, according to a statement released by the South Brunswick Police Department (SBPD).

After consulting with the Middlesex County Prosecutor’s Office, Zakaria was charged with fourth degree cyber-harassment. He surrendered at police headquarters on Feb. 23 and was released on a summons, police said.

Police remind parents and teenagers that cyber-harassment and cyber bullying can have life-changing and lifelong consequences. Teenagers should be aware that what they post, tweet, snap and send can have serious consequences, according to the report.

The messages in this case have been removed from the social media site, but the ramifications for the suspect and victim will be long lasting, police said.
