More than 6,000 residents enjoy three nights of Navratri festivals

SOUTH BRUNSWICK – More than 6,000 local residents enjoyed a grand Navratri Garba celebration organized by Indo-American Cultural Foundation of Central Jersey (IACFNJ).

Renowned singers and musicians performed during events on Sept. 23, 29 and 30 at South Brunswick High School in Monmouth Junction to mark the festival of nine nights during which Hindus worship Goddess of Shakti Durga, Lakshmi and Saraswati.

The group of Mahesh Mehta, artists from Bollywood and musicians from Entertainment Unlimited performed traditional and new garbas, dandiya, sanedo and bhangaras for more than five hours each night.

There were traditional Indian delicacies; local vendors with clothing, jewelry and traditional items; and statues of the goddesses.

IACFNJ will hold a Diwali party beginning at 7 p.m. Nov. 3 at Ember Restaurant & Banquet Hall, 3793 Route 1, Monmouth Junction section of South Brunswick.

There will be a live deejay, dancing, vegetarian and non-vegetarian appetizers, dinners, drinks, a children’s menu and dessert.
