• The American Association of University Women Freehold branch will host its annual used book sale from June 20-23 at the First United Methodist Church, 91 W. Main St., Freehold. Residents of all towns are invited to purchase books of all types: gardening, children’s classics, fantasy, mystery, nature, biography, fiction, science fiction, history, psychology and sports. The AAUW book sale has been a tradition in Freehold since 1973. Hours are June 20, 1-8 p.m. (Preview Day, admission $10 for that day only); June 21-22, 9 a.m. to 8 p.m., and June 23, 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. (Bag Day, $5 for a bag of books). There is no admission charge June 21-23. Most books are priced at 50 cents to $2. Special books are priced higher. Proceeds are used to assist outstanding area high school female seniors and women over 25 who are returning to college to pursue undergraduate or graduate degrees.
• The Monmouth County 4-H Livestock Clubs and the Monmouth County Park System invite area residents to attend the Monmouth County 4-H Spring Livestock Expo from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. June 16 at Thompson Park, 805 Newman Springs Road, Lincroft. • The Monmouth County Genealogy Society invites the public to enjoy “Someone Must Wash the Dishes,” an anti-suffrage satire written in 1912 and performed by professional actress Michele LaRue at 2:30 p.m. during the July 8 meeting of the Monmouth County Genealogy Society at the Community Center, 72 Broad St., Eatontown. • The Italian American Cultural Society of New Jersey invites members of the public to its Comedy Night on June 14 at 7 p.m. at MJ’s (Buttonwood Manor), Matawan. This will be a dinner and a show featuring the comedy of Uncle Floyd and the vocal performance of the society’s own Lou Orrichio. The cost is $35 per person for members and $45 for non-members. • The Allentown Public Library has announced that the Allentown afghans, which were created and sold by the Women’s Association of Allentown, are now available for the first time since 2008. The afghans were designed by Joanne Tourine and show nine historic structures, including the Imlay Mansion, Gov. Newell’s home, the Presbyterian Church, Abel Cafferty’s Mill house and the iconic mill and the Allentown Baptist Church that is now home to the library. The afghans are available in hunter green, cranberry and colonial blue. They are available for purchase at the library, 16 S. Main Street. All proceeds benefit the Allentown Public Library Association in support of the library building.
• A yard sale fundraiser will be held from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. June 30 (rain or shine) at 24 Baird Road, Millstone Township. Proceeds will support the Thomas Baird Homestead Cultural Resource Center and Agricultural Museum in Millstone Township. Donations to the sale are tax deductible. • Monmouth County has scheduled paper shredding events so county residents have opportunities to get rid of old documents and confidential files safely. • The Fresh Air Fund is seeking area residents who would like to host a child this summer through the fund’s Friendly Towns Program. The children participate in activities with their host family during their stay.
