Raising Hope For Others
Raising Hope for Others will hold its annual August fundraiser in the Cranbury School Auditorium.
The non-profit organization’s fundraiser will be held inside on Aug. 3.
Proceeds from the fundraiser help assist individuals and their families during difficult times.
“This fundraiser is pretty special, because it is our way of keeping Kathleen’s giving spirit alive. She was a caregiver herself and took care of family,” said Laura Burke, a Raising Hope for Others Trustee about Kathleen Gilbert Loomis. “She fostered and adopted children. This fundraiser is a way of not forgetting her.”
Loomis was described by Raising Hope for Others as a loving wife, mother, daughter and caregiver to many. She lost her life to pancreatic cancer in 2008.
The goal for this year’s fundraiser is $10,000 or more, according to Burke.
From 2-5 p.m. their will be plenty of activities for children and adults to participate in.
“There will be a petting zoo, pony rides, children’s crafts, and a children’s ticket auction. Then there will be a silent auction, a 50/50, a raffle and refreshments for purchase,” Burke said.
The big ticket raffle item this year is Sir Prize Ballooning which has donated a hot air balloon ride for two people. Sir Prize is a professionally run aerostat (N-9067F) and is piloted by Ken Leota, a member of the Balloon Federation of American and the Great Eastern Balloon Association. Tickets for this $500 value ride will be for sale the day of the fundraiser for $20, according to Burke.

Township Committee
The Township Committee announced at the July 8 meeting that in September, blue ribbons will dawn on trees in downtown for Ovarian Cancer Month.
Committee members also reported at the July 8 meeting that they will look at adopting an official surplus policy to help educate future committee members on dealing with with surplus in the town’s budget process.
Mayor
Mayor James Taylor announced a new proclamation on July 8, which states that July 17, 2019 will be Giuliana D’Aria Day in Cranbury.
The proclamation is in honor of Giuliana and her family. Giuliana’s life was cut short due to leigh syndrome a neurodegenerative disease.
The D’Aria family has donated ‘Giuliana’s Swing’ in Cranbury, a musical instrument and bench.
