Helene Cody Cranbury 5k and Mile Fun Run

A reminder for residents, the Helene Cody Cranbury 5k and Mile Fun Run is set to take place in Cranbury on Sept. 7.

Beginning at 8:15 a.m., the mile run will commence at the Cranbury Fire Department on 2 S. Main St. Following the run, will be the 5k run and walk at 9 a.m.

According to officials, this event is the main fundraiser for the Helene Cody Foundation, whose mission is to inspire youth to volunteer to better their communities and themselves.

Officials said Helene planned to revive the Cranbury Day 5K, a community event that had been discontinued in 2006, as a way to combine her love of distance running and community service for her girl scout Gold Award project.

When she passed away in 2008, a classmate held the first Helene Cody Cranbury 5K in memory of Helene for his Eagle Scout project.

Registration for the event ends on Sept.4 and is $20 for the mile fun run and $25 for the 5k run and walk.
