Old Bridge High School held an “Orange Out” charity tailgate before the football game against John P. Stevens High School on Sept. 27.
The money raised will be used to create a scholarship in memory of Sarah Hope Aziz, who died in a fatal two-car crash on July 6. She was 17 years old.
The color orange was selected for the home opener to honor the memory of Aziz, who was a member of the Class of 2020. Orange was the teen’s favorite color, according to information provided by the school district.
About 1,200 students, faculty, and administrators purchased orange T-shirts, which read “Knight of Hope,” and attended the tailgate, which was held on the practice field adjacent to the Lombardi sports complex.
In addition to the sale of t-shirts, members of SADD (Students Against Destructive Decisions) sold orange bracelets with the words “#FriendsForLife” emblazoned on them and members of the Cosmetology classes painted faces with orange designs during lunch periods for a small fee, according to the statement.
