Nine residents of the Meadow Lakes continuing care retirement community in East Windsor have died of COVID-19 complications to date, the New Jersey Department of Health announced May 22.
The deaths are reported to the New Jersey Department of Health by the long-term care facilities, such as Meadow Lakes.
The nine residents who have succumbed to COVID-19 are among the 26 Meadow Lakes residents who had been confirmed to have the disease as of May 22, officials said.
Also, 22 staff members have tested positive for COVID-19, but none have died, officials said.
Mercer County officials announced in the May 22 daily report that 6,295 residents had tested positive for COVID-19 and that 443 residents had died of it.
With the exception of the nine deaths at Meadow Lakes, it is not known how many of the 443 residents who have died were East Windsor residents.
What is known is that 509 East Windsor residents had tested positive for COVID-19 through May 20, based on records kept by the New Jersey Department of Health.
The number of new cases of COVID-19 reported to officials on a daily basis has been slowing down – from as many as seven new cases on May 7 to as few as one or two new cases per day. One new case was reported each day on May 18, May 19 and May 20.
