India Independence Day celebrated in South Brunswick

The Indo-American Cultural Foundation of Central Jersey celebrated India’s 74th Independence Day with an event open to the entire community outside of the Shree Swaminarayan Temple – Vadtal Dham in South Brunswick on Aug. 14.

SOUTH BRUNSWICK – The Indo-American Cultural Foundation of Central Jersey (IACFNJ) celebrated India’s 74th Independence Day with an event open to the entire community.

Approximately 400 people attended a patriotic event outside of the Shree Swaminarayan Temple – Vadtal Dham in South Brunswick on Aug. 14.

For the 10th year, there was entertainment and cultural activities, traditional Indian and patriotic dance performances, DJ Ashish, live music and singing, and authentic Indian food sampling.

The program included the singing of the American and Indian anthems by Aruhi and Ashna.

The program continued with local and state public officials and dignitaries addressing the attendees, and patriotic singing and dances from children from local dance groups.

The New Jersey Department of Health, along with Walgreens, organized free COVID-19 vaccines.

South Brunswick is an ethnically diverse township with a population of south Asians, especially Indians, of more than 25%, according to the latest census.  The community from the surrounding towns of North Brunswick, East Brunswick, Franklin, Somerset, Monroe, Princeton, Princeton Junction and West Windsor attended this event.
