AYALA FADER
WITH
LEORA BATNITZKY
WEDNESDAY, FEBRUARY 8, 2023
7:00 PM IN PERSON + ON ZOOM
Ayala Fader, author of Hidden Heretics: Jewish Doubt in the Digital Age, will be talking with Leora Batnitzky about Professor Fader’s research in ultra-Orthodox communities, focused on Jewish men and women who secretly explored the outside world, in person and online.
They will consider as well how this particular historical moment impacts not only the ultra-Orthodox, but all manner of Jews–how we are dealing with the moral ambiguities we confront as we attempt to live ethical lives in the digital age.
The Times Literary Supplement said, “It is the personal stories in particular that makes Hidden Heretics so compelling.”
Ayala Fader is a professor of anthropology at Fordham University, In addition to Hidden Heretics, she is the author of Mitzvah Girls.
Leora Batnitzky is the Director of the Program in Judaic Studies, Princeton University, a member of The Jewish Center, and the author, most recently, of How Judaism Became a Religion: An Introduction to Modern Jewish Thought.
