As part of Hopewell Borough’s 125th anniversary, the Hopewell Museum and the Hopewell Valley Historical Society will present an illustrated talk, “Encampment Near the Baptist Meeting House,” at 7 p.m. Wednesday, March 9, at the Hopewell Museum, 28 East Broad St.
The free, public program is about the Continental Army in Hopewell Township in June 1778.
On its way to the successful Revolutionary War battle at Monmouth Court House, the Continental Army of 12,000 men marched from Mount Airy in Amwell Township to the neighborhood of the Baptist Meeting House. The army camped along the face of the Sourland Ridge and in fields belonging to the Stout family.
Local historian David Blackwell will create a picture of the army in motion, and discuss the events and participants.
