Hillsborough Democrats have unanimously endorsed Laurie Poppe, of Sharp Drive, as the Democratic candidate for Township Committee in the June primary.
Ms. Poppe, a local attorney and social worker, ran for Township Committee in 2015 and placed third in a five-person field for two members.
Running mate Ann Harris was fourth and independent Susan Gulliford fifth behind successful incumbents Carl Suraci and Greg Burchette, both Republicans, respectively.
One three-year post is up in 2016. The Republican incumbent facing re-election is Mayor Frank DelCore.
“I am thrilled and honored to once again take on this challenge,” said Ms. Poppe. “Last year I had the opportunity to meet so many township residents, hear their concerns and develop ideas to address them.
“My goal is to make Hillsborough an even better place to live, work and raise a family. We need critical questions asked and answered, new ideas, fresh perspectives and to come together as a community in order to accomplish great things.”
A nominating petition has been filed with the Township Clerk.
Former Township Committeeman Paul Drake and former Democratic chair Michael Goldberg will be co-campaign managers of the Poppe campaign. The campaign will be working closely with John Beggiato, chair of the Hillsborough Democratic Organization, and Anne Iannone, president of the Hillsborough Democratic Alliance.
“Laurie has the professional qualifications and strength of character needed to be a valuable member of the Township Committee,” said Mr. Drake. “She is clearly demonstrating her dedication and commitment to our community by once again taking on this challenge. Mike and I are thrilled to be working with her on this campaign.”
Ms. Poppe said, “I cannot emphasize enough that this campaign, to be successful, will need the support of each and every concerned Hillsborough resident. We are committed to reaching out to all voters utilizing a dynamic and positive campaign plan. By starting our efforts in early March this plan will lead us, ultimately, to our victory in November.”
Anyone who is interested in participating in the campaign should contact Mr. Goldberg @ mikegold722@gmail.com or 908-295-8992.
