First batter up is softball.

On April 16, Allentown High School is holding the sixth annual Give Back Softball Classic. Teams from Monmouth and Ocean counties will be taking part in the event. Among those teams are Freehold, Howell, Jackson Liberty, Manalapan, Marlboro, Matawan, Ocean Township, Raritan and Red Bank Catholic.

Leadership in the Greater Middlesex Conference’s Red Division softball standings will be on the line when co-leaders South Brunswick and J.P. Stevens play in South Brunswick on April 15.

Turning to baseball.

On April 14 in Edison, Old Bridge visits J.P. Stevens in a key Greater Middlesex Conference baseball game. The contest will pit the J.P. Stevens offense against Old Bridge’s pitching.

On to the lacrosse fields.

Howell and Christian Brothers Academy shared the Shore Conference A North Division boys’ lacrosse championship last spring. The teams will meet in Howell on April 15, with the winner having a very good chance at claiming the title outright this year.

Now hitting the track.

For track and field fans, East Brunswick High School is serving as the host to the East Brunswick Invitational on April 16.

Central Regional High School in Bayville, is holding the Eagle Relay Invitational on April 16.

This is an important meet because Central Regional is the venue to this year’s NJSIAA Meet of Champions and the invitational will give the state’s track and field athletes their first look at the track and its field event facilities. The Meet of Champions is run in early June and caps the state’s scholastic track and field season.

Finally, hit the fairways.

On April 14 at the Sun Eagles Golf Course at Fort Monmouth, Tinton Falls, the Monmouth County Girls’ Golf Tournament will be held. The county’s individual and team champions will be crowned.

It will be the boy’s turn on April 18 when Howell Park Golf Course in Howell, is the home to the Monmouth County Tournament.
