LONG BRANCH — U.S. Rep. Frank Pallone Jr. (D-6) has announced that his office will sponsor a poetry competition for local schoolchildren as part of National Poetry Month. The competition is open to all students in the 6th Congressional District. Submissions are due April 29.

“From the time of Walt Whitman, New Jersey has made important contributions to American poetry,” said Pallone in a press release. “It is important to continue to promote the importance of poetry so young people can embrace this legacy and broaden their education. I look forward to reading and hearing the creative and thoughtful poems from students in the 6th Congressional District.”
