Events to honor Civil War dead

Capt. Benjamin Frank Lloyd and Pvt. William A. Rogers, the Civil War dead of Old Bridge Village, East Brunswick, will be honored at a Memorial Day observance planned for May 30 in Chestnut Hill Cemetery, Old Bridge Turnpike, East Brunswick.

Crandall-Kossman American Legion Post No. 177 will conduct a wreath-laying ceremony at 9 a.m. A Civil War living history to honor all those who served in the war will be provided by the 2nd New Jersey Brigade noon-5 p.m. Lincoln’s Gettysburg Address will be recited by a local student at 1 p.m. at the Grand Army of the Republic (GAR) plot in the cemetery.

In addition, a walking tour of Old Bridge Village to showcase the homes of Civil War soldiers will take place at 11 a.m. Participants should meet at Crandall School, Kossman Street.

The events are sponsored by the Old Bridge Village Heritage Center, Alice Appleby DeVoe Memorial Library Association.
