OLD BRIDGE – Doris Haug from the Piecemaker Quilters of Colts Neck Reformed Church recently presented a handmade quilt to the Reformed Church Home of Old Bridge.
The quilt is made up of many four-inch by four-inch squares that were completed by congregants of several Reformed Churches in New Jersey, according to a statement prepared by the Old Bridge home. Reformed Church Home’s mission statement is embroidered in the center of the quilt.
During a council meeting held at the home on April 12, Executive Director Kate Shepard accepted the masterpiece on behalf of the residents and staff.
“Reformed Church Home would like to sincerely thank all who were involved in creating this magnificent quilt,” Shepard said. “It will be a lovely addition to the home and we will hang it in our lobby as a beautiful piece for visitors to admire. It is a symbol of the love and support that area Reformed Churches have for the residents of Reformed Church Home.”
Haug, a Reformed Church Home board member, led the project last fall and enlisted the help of many churches in the community to design and sew quilt squares.
The participating churches were Old Brick Reformed Church, Marlboro; Grace Reformed Church, Edison; the First Reformed Church of Hawthorne; Three Bridges Reformed Church; Freehold Reformed Church; Saddle River Reformed Church; the First Reformed Church, Pompton Plains; Pompton Reformed Church, Pompton Lakes; New Brunswick Second Reformed Church; Trinity Reformed Church, Plainfield; Monocacy Valley Church, Ijamsville, Maryland; Ocean Community Church, Manahawkin; and Colts Neck Reformed Church.
