Two Belle Mead men have been charged with trespassing and causing a public nuisance that led to a lockdown, search and early dismissal Hillsborough High School grounds and building on Friday.
Charged were Nicholas Grande, 20, and Steven Jahn, 19, both of Belle Mead.
Police responded to a call at 8:54 a.m. after students and staff saw two adult “trespassers” on campus. Police said they “were not recognized as current or former students, nor were they recognized as having any legitimate purpose on campus.”
The two had left the school grounds by the time police arrived. The school was placed on “modified lockdown” to “facilitate the necessary steps to ensure the safety of students and staff,” the police said.
The N.J. Detect and Render Safe task force was called and conducted an examination of the school’s parking lots. Once they were deemed safe, the students and staff were dismissed by the school administration.
The K-9 task force then examined the school building “and determined there were no dangers or hazards left by trespassers.”
