Workshops tackle growing of herbs, figs

The Rutgers Cooperative Extension of Middlesex County is offering a series of workshops that will help improve gardens and health.

The free workshops will take place May 14 at the EARTH Center, located in Davidson’s Mill Pond Park, 42 Riva Ave., South Brunswick.

“Putting Herbs to Work in Your Garden” will be held from 10 a.m.-noon. by Caren White, a certified Rutgers Master Gardener and longtime Rutgers Gardens herb garden steward.

“Growing Figs in Containers” will follow from 1-2 p.m. The workshop will review the challenges of growing fig trees in New Jersey and why containers are better for the average gardener. The presenter will be Master Gardener Fred Primich, longtime surgeon and container gardening expert.
