MIDDLETOWN — The Monmouth County Historical Association will host its annual celebration of King George III’s birthday from 10 a.m.-4 p.m. June 4 at Marlpit Hall, the 18th-century home of Loyalist Edward Taylor located at 137 Kings Highway.

Within the British Empire, including the American Colonies, celebration of the king’s birthday was one of the social events of the year. Guests attending this year’s celebration will experience the day in the manner it might have been celebrated at Marlpit Hall.

Edward Taylor and his wife, Mary Osborne Taylor, will be portrayed by actors who will welcome guests. Loyalist soldiers will hold drills in the yard at 10:30 a.m. Visiting children can join the troops and learn to march with muskets. Throughout the day, children can also enjoy hoop-rolling, sack races and other party games. There will also be craft demonstrations throughout the day.

At 2 p.m., musical entertainment of the period will begin. Guests will hear “The Practitioners of Musick” featuring John Burkhalter playing the harpsichord and recorder.

Admission is free, and lights refreshments will be served. Marlpit Hall will be open for tours from 1-4 p.m. Parking is available at the adjacent Middletown Village School. For more information, call 732-462-1466 or visit www.monmouthhistory.org.
