Monroe Library announces September programs

The Monroe Township Public Library, 4 Municipal Plaza, will hold a September Reading Challenge: Read a book you’ve been meaning to read.

The Poets Corner will be held at 11 a.m. on Sept. 2. Stop by to listen or bring a poem to share.

“The Great Courses: 20th Century in a Nutshell” will be presented at 1 p.m. Sept. 6. Two 30-min DVD lectures will be followed by a brief discussion. This month features The New Frontier, Lyndon B. Johnson’s Great Society and the rise of mass media.

Talk about books that you’ve read during the Book Cafe at 11 a.m. on Sept. 7. Light refreshments will be served.

“Hooked on Crochet: Hats, Scarves and Cowls” will be led by Sandra Kandel at 11 a.m. on Sept. 8, 15, 22 and 29. A supply list with basic patterns is available at the Welcome Desk.

“Learn to Sew! Meet Your Sewing Machine” is set for 6 p.m. on Sept. 8. Adults with no prior sewing machine experience will learn to wind a bobbin, thread a needle and practice stitching. A class on sewing table runners will be held at 3 p.m. on Sept. 26 and at 6 p.m. on Sept. 29. Sit -N- Stitch is scheduled for 10:30 a.m. on Sept. 9 and 23. Bring your own supplies.

A movie, to be announced, will be shown at 2 p.m., Sept. 9.

The Coupon Club will meet at 1:30 p.m., Sept. 12.

The Genealogy Club will meet at 1:30 p.m., Sept. 14.

The International Book Club will discuss “The Daughter” by English author Jane Shemilt at 10:30 a.m. on Sept. 20.

Coloring for Adults is set for 1:30 p.m. on Sept. 22.

A screening of the film “Defiant Requiem” will be held at 1 p.m., Sept. 25, by the Henry Ricklis Holocaust Memorial Committee, followed by a discussion.

“Book Buzz for Book Clubs,” presented by Yvonne Selander, will be held at 2 p.m. on Sept. 29.

The Annual Cultural Arts Juried Art Show is planned for Sept. 19-28. The George Ivers Display Case will feature pen and ink drawings by Shamus Farmer. The Fine Arts Gallery will showcase paintings by Ina Light; Light will hold a gallery artist talk at 11 a.m., Sept. 17.

The Library Foundation will meet at 7 p.m. on Sept. 15. The Library Board will meet at 6:30 p.m. on Sept. 19. The Friends of the Library will meet at 7 p.m. on Sept. 27.

The library will be closed on Sept. 4 and 5.
