Judith Chirico, owner of Interior Design Directions in Hightstown, was recently honored for her design work at Labebe Restaurant in North Brunswick.

She received a Silver Award for Design Excellence in the Hospitality category by the New Jersey Chapter of the American Society of Interior Designers.

Like the restaurant’s name, the new space honors the legacy of the owner’s mother, while appealing to a young, modern clientele. One of its distinguishing features is the ceiling with exposed wood boards that the designer reclaimed from the now-demolished structure that was originally on the property.

The design competition was judged by a panel of interior designers from outside the state on functional and creative use of space; scale and proportion; color and composition; creative or interesting use of materials; interesting details; and effective use of lighting.

Labebe is located at 2150 Route 130, North Brunswick.
