HOWELL – Testimony on a developer’s plan to construct 100 age-restricted residential units in two buildings at 6461 Route 9 north, between Estelle Lane and Alexander Avenue, is now scheduled to resume at the Oct. 20 meeting of the Howell Planning Board.

Representatives of MGD Holdings were expected to continue their presentation to the board on Sept. 15.

On the morning of Sept. 15, a representative of MGD Holdings asked for the hearing to be carried to Oct. 20, according to a Planning Board official. As it turned out, the Sept. 15 meeting was not held because the board did not have a quorum.

The MGD Holdings application dates back to 2003 and was the subject of litigation between the applicant and the municipality, according to attorney Steve Cohen, who represents the applicant.

In 2004, the board approved the construction of a 96-unit age-restricted development on the front of the parcel and 26 single-family homes on the rear portion of the tract.

Cohen said MGD Holdings has since revised its development plan. He said the 26 single-family homes have been eliminated and the applicant is now proposing to build 100 age-restricted rental units along Route 9.

The apartments are proposed to be in two buildings of 50 apartments each and would be available to people age 55 and over.

MGD Holdings is seeking relief from a Howell ordinance which permits a maximum of 32 units per building. The previous testimony on the MGD Holdings application was heard in July.
