The Empire Builder strikes back.

The North Brunswick Superintendent of Schools Brian Zychowski and his Board of Education (BOE) are placing a $68 million school expansion bond referendum on a ballot in December

Since having an $88 million referendum [$79 million for taxpayers] turned down last year, the board has miraculously found room at Linwood Middle School for the needed classrooms and BOE offices. Despite having a vacant Maple Meade School after the BOE office move, the board still wants to buy that property down on Route 130 from The Boulevard at Renaissance group and build a school for seventh- and eighth-grade classes while a preschool, something the governor has called “government babysitting,” is located in the renovated Linwood Middle School. The cost has not been quantified, and it does have a certain odor about it.

This referendum is for capital improvements only; not one cent will go to school programs or expenses. You will be taxed separately for those items, which will increase exponentially as the facilities increase.

Do we need $68 million of debt to sponsor a babysitting program? Vote “no” to reject this proposal and reduce your potential tax liability.

The board can shave this wishlist further.
