EAST BRUNSWICK — Two New Brunswick residents were charged with possession of drugs and weapons after a motor vehicle stop in East Brunswick.
On Oct. 1 around 3:56 a.m., Ptl. Robert Theoret conducted a motor vehicle stop on Route 18 north into New Brunswick, according to information provided by the East Brunswick Police Department.
During his investigation, he reportedly detected the odor of marijuana and conducted a search of the vehicle. While searching the vehicle, Theoret allegedly located marijuana, cocaine, ecstasy and a loaded .32 caliber revolver.
The occupants, James Lee, 28, and Tatiana Valdez, 24, both of New Brunswick, were taken into custody without incident, according to police.
Lee was charged with possession of a controlled dangerous substance, possession of a controlled dangerous substance with intent to distribute, possession of a weapon, possession of a weapon while engaged in controlled dangerous substances-related activity and certain persons not to possess a weapon. Bail was set at $75,000.
Valdez was charged with possession of a controlled dangerous substance, possession of a controlled dangerous substance with intent to distribute, possession of a weapon and possession of a weapon while engaged in controlled dangerous substances-related activity. Bail was set at $25,000.
Both were lodged at the Middlesex County Adult Correction Center in North Brunswick in lieu of bail, as of press time.
