Annual Zilinski memorial run/walk set for Nov. 6

LINCROFT — The 11th annual Lt. Dennis W. Zilinski II Memorial 3.5-mile run and 2-mile walk are slated for Sunday, Nov. 6 (rain or shine), at Christian Brothers Academy, 850 Newman Springs Road. The event will begin at 10 a.m.

The event is held in honor and memory of U.S. Army Lt. Dennis W. Zilinski II, who was assigned to the 1st Battalion, 187th Infantry Regiment, 3rd Brigade Combat Team, Company B of the 101st Airborne Division. He was deployed to Iraq where he was killed in action on Nov. 19, 2005.

Zilinski graduated from Christian Brothers Academy in 2000 and the U.S. Military Academy at West Point in 2004. All veterans and active-duty servicemen/women will also be honored.

Ceremonies begin at 8:50 a.m. with the National Anthem sung by the Rock ‘n’ Roll Chorus. Once again, the run will be led by the West Point Swim Team from the U.S. Military Academy at West Point.

The guest speaker will be Major Alan VanSaun, who was a roommate of Zilinski at West Point and is now with Special Forces at Fort Bragg in North Carolina. The invocation will be delivered by Brother Frank Byrne from Christian Brothers Academy.

Awards will be given to the top three finishers in the men’s and women’s divisions. Registration is $35 for adults and $18 for those 18 and under.
