The department is also urging residents to report any suspicious activity in their neighborhoods. Dial 911 for any emergency or the dispatch center at 732-390-6900 for non-emergency calls. All callers have the option to remain anonymous.

Police should be alerted to any suspicious vehicles parked in the neighborhood; unusual activities such as open doors, windows or persons walking on or through the property who are unfamiliar; solicitors not providing permits from the township; unusual conversations with people ringing the doorbell; or people claiming to be employees from any water department, tax office, electric department or any public or private utility.

Police advise residents not to intervene or approach anyone believed to be suspicious; to lock doors and make the home appear occupied at all times; and to gather information such as a physical description, type of vehicle, license plate and direction of travel, if possible.

To create a neighborhood watch, contact Patrolman Craig Hoover of the Community Policing Unit at choover@ebpd.net or 732-390-6938.
