Dump truck rolls over after leaving roadway, fatally injuring driver

MONROE — Police are investigating a motor vehicle accident that left the driver of a truck fatally injured.

Around 11:23 a.m. on Dec. 5, a 2006 Peterbilt 354 tandem dump truck was traveling east on Buckelew Avenue, just east of Elm Ridge Court near Etsch Farm, according to information provided by the Monroe Township Police Department.

The truck partially left the eastbound lane of travel for an unknown reason to its right, then came back onto the roadway to its left and crossed the double yellow center line into the westbound lane of travel where it rolled over onto its passenger’s side, spilling its load onto the roadway, according to the statement.

The driver, Alcides Egoavil, 59, of Kearny, was pronounced dead at the scene from head and chest injuries, police said.

The crash is being investigated by Officer Daniel Mosakowski of the Monroe Township Traffic Safety Division. Anyone with information should contact Mosakowski at 732-521-0222, ext. 242.
