Jackson crash claims life of township resident

JACKSON – Police are investigating a motor vehicle crash that claimed the life of a young man.

According to the Jackson Police Department, at 2 a.m. Jan. 28, police officers and emergency personnel responded to a serious motor vehicle crash on Freehold Road. Police said the crash involved one vehicle which had one occupant.

Police identified the driver who was killed as Shane R. Stewart, 25, of Jackson.

A preliminary investigation determined Stewart’s vehicle was traveling south on Freehold Road when for unknown reasons it crossed the center line into the northbound lane and then ran off the road and struck a tree, according to police.

Police said the Jackson Township First Aid Squad also responded to the scene.

The crash is under investigation by Officer Don Lasko of the Traffic Safety Bureau. The investigation is being overseen by Sgt. George Vidalis of the Traffic Safety Bureau.
