EAST BRUNSWICK — A seventh grader’s school is rallying around him to make his ordeal with cancer as easy as possible.

Tyler Knurek missed his fifth grade year due to his initial diagnosis and is dealing with a recurrence this year. While he undergoes treatment, St. Bartholomew School in East Brunswick is helping him remain part of the classroom.

The seventh grade class created original prayer cards and wrote a personal prayer for Tyler’s recovery. The school chose two of the designed prayer cards and had them professionally printed.

The school also held dress down days for a donation, and the seventh graders read at the weekend Masses to request funds.

All the proceeds went toward the purchase of a VGo robot. Tyler, through virtual technology, will be present and interacting in class, and even going on class trips without leaving the hospital room.
