LINCROFT — The Center for Holocaust, Human Rights & Genocide Education (Chhange) will host the international exhibit, “Anne Frank: A History for Today,” from April 2 to June 1 on the first floor of the Bankier Library at Brookdale Community College, 765 Newman Springs Road.
The exhibit, which is developed by the Anne Frank House and sponsored in North America by the Anne Frank Center for Mutual Respect, is making its first appearance in central New Jersey.
“Anne Frank: A History for Today” incorporates quotes from Anne’s renowned diary into every exhibit panel, recapturing the events and moments of daily life through her eyes. The emotional, bilingual exhibit engages visitors of all ages, whether they are new to Anne’s story or studied readers of her diary.
“Chhange is a nonprofit organization that raises awareness of the Holocaust as well as other genocides that have occurred throughout history. Our amazing Anne Frank exhibit, brought to Chhange from the Anne Frank House, draws parallels between Anne’s experiences and today’s refugee crisis. The exhibit challenges us to rethink Anne as a vibrant young woman, but also as a refugee whose family desperately tried to flee for safety,” said Dale Daniels, executive director of Chhange.
The grand opening of the exhibit will take place April 2, and guests can tour the exhibit from 12-1:30 p.m. Then the exhibit will be open to the public, free of charge, from 2-3 p.m.
Beginning on April 3, “Anne Frank: A History for Today” and “Through Their Eyes,” a student art installation, will be open to the public, Monday through Thursday, by reservation only. Self-guided tours and guided tours with a docent are available. School groups (grades 5 and up) can reserve a guided tour Monday through Thursday at 9 a.m. or 11 a.m.
All guided tours will be led by a Chhange docent and include a 25-minute documentary about Anne Frank. General admission is $7 or free for Chhange members and Brookdale Community College students. Chhange memberships are available for 2017, starting at $35 for an individual and $60 for a family.
“Through Their Eyes” marks the fourth time that Chhange has staged a student art installation. Previous exhibits shared students’ perspectives on racism, the 100th anniversary of the Armenian Genocide and the 20th anniversary of the genocide against the Tutsi in Rwanda.
