Freehold High School honors Hall of Fame inductees

FREEHOLD – Three individuals and two teams from Freehold High School have been inducted into their school’s Hall of Fame.

Alumni Scott Preston, Michael DeLucia, Jennifer Towers and the 1953-54 and 1954-55 football teams were inducted into the Freehold High School Hall of Fame at a ceremony on April 27.

The Borough Council passed resolutions honoring the inductees on May 1.

According to the resolutions, the 1953-54 and 1954-55 football teams finished undefeated. The 1953-54 football team won the Shore Conference and New Jersey State Interscholastic Athletic Association Central Jersey, Group II championships; the 1954-55 also won the Shore Conference and tied Highland Park High School for the Central Jersey title.

Preston played soccer during his four years at Freehold High School, where he graduated in 1982. From 1982-86, he continued to play soccer at North Carolina Wesleyan College, where he was recognized as an NCAA All-American. Prior to his induction into his high school’s hall of fame, he became the first soccer player inducted into the North Carolina Wesleyan College Athletic Hall of Fame in 2002. He is currently a member of the United Scenic Artists Union in New York, according to the resolutions.

DeLucia played football and baseball at Freehold High School and graduated in 1996, according to the resolutions. He attended Rutgers University on a football scholarship and served as his team’s starting center. After graduating with a degree in criminal justice, he pursued a career in law enforcement and is currently employed as a sergeant in the Tinton Falls Police Department’s Detective Bureau. He also served as the coach of Freehold High School’s football team for 11 years.

Towers, according to the resolutions, graduated from Freehold High School in 2004, where she played soccer, basketball and softball. After attending Rider University on a basketball scholarship, she transferred to North Carolina State University, where she graduated summa cum laude with a degree in psychology. Upon completing her undergraduate education, she earned a Master of Science in occupational therapy from the University of Illinois at Chicago. She is currently an occupational therapist with a concentration on geriatric rehabilitation, assisting those who are medically, physically and mentally challenged.
