Woodbridge High School wide receiver Quassim Glover loved the experience of playing in the 2017 Phil Simms North-South All-Star Football Classic.
Glover was a part of the South All-Stars that won the game, beating the North All-Stars, 30-22, June 26 at Kean University in Union.
The 6-foot-2, 195-pounder made just one reception in the game but loved competing and participating in the annual all-star event that attracts the top graduated senior players from throughout New Jersey.
“It’s great,” Glover said. “It’s definitely great competing against the best in the state and playing with the best in the state too. We practice together and compete against each other all week. It just makes you better.”
Glover also loved coming out with the victory, especially since rumors swirled that the North All-Stars were being quite boastful.
“It’s always great to come out with a win when the other team’s talking a lot,” Glover said. “You just stay humble and play your game in the end.”
Glover had a big catch that would have put the South team in the red zone late in the second quarter, but it was called back due to a holding call.
Had the play stood, it would have been Glover’s second consecutive catch for a big play. He had caught a 12-yard pass for a first down on the prior play for his only catch of the game. Despite the catch being nullified by the penalty, Glover was happy with the team’s performance and glad he could contribute to the victory.
“If I touch the ball, I’m trying to score,” Glover said. “Getting the catch called back, I mean, it is what it is. But at the end of the day, the scoreboard shows how the rest of the team competed and gave it our all. That’s all that matters.”
The victory by the South left the all-time series record at 18-18-2.
Glover will now focus on his collegiate career when he attends classes in the fall at Wesley College in Delaware.
