The Kohl’s Department Stores chain has announced plans to open a new store in the East Windsor Village Shopping Center on the Princeton-Hightstown Road, according to Mayor Janice Mironov.
The new department store will join the existing lineup of national chain stores at the shopping center that includes Target, TJ Maxx, Famous Footwear and Kay Jewelers. Kohl’s will be located next to Patel Brothers Grocery, Mayor Mironov said.
"This is very exciting news. This reflects extremely well on East Windsor," Mayor Mironov told Township Council. The new store is expected to open in October.
"We are excited to welcome one of the leading specialty department stores to our township, which has become an increasingly attractive locale for national retailers due to many factors," Mayor Mironov said.
Those factors range from the township’s "superior location, the vibrant local economy and our proactive efforts to support and encourage business," the mayor said.
As East Windsor Township has evolved into a shopping hub, the new stores are attracting shoppers from neighboring towns such as Cranbury, Robbinsville, Plainsboro and West Windsor, Mayor Mironov said.
"Kohl’s is without a doubt the most well-known and popular retailer of its kind, and will be enthusiastically received by our residents and shoppers in the surrounding communities," she said.
"The decision by retailers such as Kohl’s to site a store here underscores once again East Windsor’s vitality and dynamism for new business growth," Mayor Mironov said.
"Kohl’s is yet another store that will enhance shopping and service options for local residents," she added.
The company has indicated it will begin hiring for full- and part-time positions at the store soon. The chain has more than 1,100 stores in 49 states.
