Freehold Township 13U baseball team heading to World Series

The Freehold Township 13U Little League team is headed to Intermediate 50/70 Baseball League World Series that starts July 30 and runs through Aug. 6 in California.

Freehold Township gained a ticket to the national tournament after it defeated Maryland, 12-2, on July 26 in the Eastern Regional tournament in Commack, New York.

Freehold Township had forced a final game when it beat Maryland, 13-1, earlier in the day on July 26.

Freehold Township was in a bind after an early loss in the regional tournament, a 5-4 setback to Commack. Freehold Township had stayed alive with its 12-4 victory over New York’s Gates-Chili, July 24.

On July 25, Freehold Township scored a 7-5 victory over Keystone of Pennsylvania and then beat Commack, 12-9 , in nine innings.

Those victories led to Freehold Township playing against Maryland on July 26.
