Hightstown Theatre in the Park will present its fourth season in Association Park this weekend along with the debut performance of the Park Way Players.
Hightstown Theatre in the Park is an affordable, summer theater program for middle and high school students. This summer, in addition to the five-week evening session for the older children, the Park Way Players was created for children entering grades 4-8.
Hightstown Theatre in the Park was created by Kerrie Peterson and is a joint program of the Hightstown Parks and Recreation Committee and Hightstown Cultural Arts Commission. Once again the program is led by artistic directors Jonathan A. Martin and Chrissy Johnson, who also co-own the newly formed Recess Theatre and Performing Arts Studio in Robbinsville.
The Park Way Players will be presenting "Jackie and the Golden Comet" by Tyler Cramer. When Jackie, a young girl who loves science, is challenged by a school "tough-guy” to launch her rocket into space, she and her friends set out on an out-of-this-world adventure. But when Jackie and her friends accidentally bring an alien back to Earth, they realize their troubles may have only just begun.
Immediately following "The Trials of Robin Hood" by Will Averil will be presented. The tale of Robin Hood is told from the
perspectives of Maid Marian, The Sheriff of Nottingham and Robin himself. Then the audience must decide who is telling the truth.
The two performances run less than two hours. Bring a picnic or purchase snacks at the park. Performances are open to the public and will be held at the Gazebo in Association Park on July 28 and 29 at 6:30 p.m., and July 30 at 3 p.m.
