EAST BRUNSWICK – The East Brunswick Library will close to the public for two weeks to allow for interior renovations.
“Our building first opened its doors in 1976 and is one of the busiest libraries in the area,” Library Director Jennifer Podolsky said of the facility, located at 2 Jean Walling Civic Center Dr., which will be closed from Aug. 14-29. “This project helps us make several improvements to the library which we can’t wait to share with the public.”
The most noticeable new features will be the creation of a MakerSpace, dedicating an area that provides access to technology and equipment to the community. The space will include an audio recording studio, lendable learning and tech kits, and an additional area for library programming.
The renovation project also includes a new circulation counter, information services desk and flooring throughout the building.
“This short-term closure allows us to efficiently make these changes to the building,” Podolsky said. “Our library is the information center of our community, and this project will allow our customers to have a better experience at the library. We thank everyone for their patience and support while we complete this project.”
In the meantime, East Brunswick Library patrons can visit the South River Library, 55 Appleby Ave., South River; the Spotswood Library, 528 Main St., Spotswood; the Milltown Library, 20 W. Church St., Milltown; and/or the Monroe Township Library, 4 Municipal Plaza, Monroe.

Services will also be available online at www.ebpl.org. Cardholders can access digital library materials through several different services, such as hoopla digital for eBooks, audiobooks, movies, television programs music and comics; eLibrary NJ for eBooks and audiobooks; RB Digital for magazines; and Universal Class for continuing education classes.
The library’s book and media drops are closed during the project, so customers will not be charged any fines at this time.
Meeting room requests and Friends of the Library book donations will be suspended during this closure.
The project is funded by the library and the Friends of the East Brunswick Public Library.
“The East Brunswick Public Library Foundation is hoping to raise additional funding for this and other improvements,” she said. “The role of the modern public library is always evolving, and we would like our library to meet the ever-changing needs of our community.”
