The terms of school board members Cynthia Bailey, Melissa Riviello and Margaret Gordon are ending in December.

The four candidates seeking three three-year terms are Bailey, Riviello, Peter Bonafide and Amrita Singh.

Gordon, who has served on the board since 2007, is not seeking re-election.

“After nearly 11 truly rewarding years on the Millstone Township school board, I will leave the board in December after witnessing, participating in and even leading at times the tremendous educational growth of our school district,” Gordon said. “It was my utmost pleasure to have served two of the 11 years as president and several years as vice president.

“I would like to thank my fellow board members through the years, specifically Kevin McGovern, David DePinho, Sal Casale and John Saxton, who were part of the harder years, when dollars were short and talk a bit long-winded,” she said. “These gents and the board members through the years, including Holly Deitz, Denise Touhey, Melissa Riviello and Cyndi Bailey, together positively participated in the board process and never forgot we were there to serve the community’s interests, and never our own.

“None of the growth witnessed could have occurred without (former Superintendent of Schools) Scott Feder at the district’s helm, guiding us with suggestions, options, candidness, honesty and integrity, all of which enabled our district to be one of the best in the state.

“My one regret will be that I will not be able to work with the amazing direction of (Superintendent of Schools) Dr. Chris Huss, nor maintain my continued banter and war of wits with (Business Administrator) Bernie Biesiada.

“It has been an honor to serve this community and I leave not because I don’t want to continue to serve, but that my life is guiding me in equally rewarding focus in other directions,” Gordon said.

Three three-year seats on the Upper Freehold Regional School District Board of Education will be up for grabs in the Nov. 7 election, with two seats representing Upper Freehold Township and one seat representing Allentown.

The board oversees the operation of the Newell Elementary School, the Stone Bridge Middle School and Allentown High School.

The terms of board members Patrick Nolan of Upper Freehold, Kurt Wayton of Allentown and Timothy Stolzenberger of Upper Freehold are ending in December. Stolzenberger is not seeking re-election.

In Allentown, Wayton is running unopposed for a three-year term.

In Upper Freehold, Nolan is the only candidate who filed a nominating petition to run for the board. Upper Freehold’s second ballot position will be empty and the seat could be won by a write-in candidate on Nov. 7.
