JACKSON – An investigation is continuing into the death of an employee at the Six Flags Great Adventure theme park, Route 537, Jackson.

An investigation revealed that an employee, Justin Dill, 19, of Middletown, was stringing lights near the theme park’s fountain when he was struck by a boom truck. Dill was transported to a hospital and died on Sept. 2, according to police.

Dill’s obituary said he was working at Great Adventure as an apprentice with the electricians union. He was a graduate of Middletown North High School and the electrical program at the Monmouth County Vocational School.

Authorities have not released any information about the individual who was driving the truck that struck Dill.

In a statement, Great Adventure said, “We are deeply saddened by our colleague’s passing and our thoughts and prayers are with his family during this difficult time. The foundation of our company and the industry is safety, and we are conducting a comprehensive investigation into this incident.”

Kristin Fitzgerald, the communication manager for Six Flags Great Adventure and Hurricane Harbor, said park officials are working with the Jackson Police Department and the U.S. Occupational Safety and Health Administration to conduct a comprehensive investigation into the incident.

According to the Ocean County Prosecutor’s Office, preliminary findings indicated there was nothing criminal in nature about the incident. The findings are pending the results of a toxicology test that was conducted on the driver of the truck.
