MILLSTONE – The Millstone Township K-8 School District Board of Education has appointed a new assistant principal at the district’s middle school.

On Aug. 28, the board approved the appointment of Florencia Norton as the assistant principal of the Millstone Township Middle School. Norton’s appointment became effective Sept. 1 and runs through June 30, 2018. She will receive a prorated salary of $105,575.

Superintendent of Schools Christopher Huss said Norton earned the position through her achievements in the field of education. He said she spent 13 years in the Hamilton Township School District in a variety of positions, including teaching third grade, kindergarten and basic skills, and most recently being the climate and culture specialist.

“I think [being the climate and culture specialist] helped her segue into the first administrative role she is going to take on,” Huss said. “[It] was not officially an administrative role, but it challenged her to handle many administrative-like tasks, including student discipline, character education, climate development and ensuring a nice environment for all of the students in her school.

“She interviewed well,” he continued. “We [Millstone administrators] had a very rigorous process that consisted of three different levels of interviews; a one-on-one interview with [middle school principal Trish] Bogusz, to a committee, and then meeting with the whole administrative team as her final round.

“I immediately liked [Norton] and I think our administrative team does [as well]. [We think] she will be a great fit. We are happy to welcome [her] aboard and wish [her] all the best,” Huss said.

In other business, the board appointed Patrick Sullivan as the district’s supervisor of buildings and grounds. He will receive a prorated salary of $89,000. Sullivan’s appointment will become effective Oct. 23 and run through June 30, 2018.

Nancy Oliva, the secretary to the business administrator and buildings and grounds, was named the acting supervisor of buildings and grounds until Sullivan joins the district. She will receive a prorated salary of $70,000; her prorated salary as a secretary was $47,482.

The board appointed Gina Tomlinson as a guidance counselor at the middle school and Eileen Bergen as an instructional aide. Tomlinson will receive a prorated salary of $62,040. Bergen will receive a prorated salary of $18,495.

Finally, the board promoted Stephen Donofrio from part-time custodian to full-time custodian, effective Sept. 1 through June 30, 2018. He will receive a prorated $36,458 salary.
